As we close out our tech emphasis I hope you’ve been

reminded that you cannot remain passive with technology.

Whether it’s for advancing the Kingdom God or avoiding

the dangers you have to have a plan and you must be

active & intentional with that plan.

Proverbs 26:27 “Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if

someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.”

In other words, actions, or, even a lack of action, has

results.  Remaining neutral is not an option.

ACTION STEPS

Action Step 1: Practice what you preach! Personally, put into practice a tech usage plan with healthy limits that you want your family to adopt.  You are being watched, you are a model. The phrase, “Do as I say not as I do” won’t cut it!  Be intentional.  Small example: I remember Owen saying several months ago that he’s purposeful to never read his Bible at home on his phone so his family can observe him valuing God’s Word. That’s a small step but it’s intentional.  Additionally, avoid letting the default place for your tech devices to always be with you or in your pocket. Set up a location in the home for tech devices to sit unused except for particular times during the day. Make room personal interaction.

Action Step 2: Fight fire with fire! This may seem counterproductive but often the best way to oversee & manage tech in your home is through the means of technology.  Here’s the reality: your son/daughter should not be trusted with unlimited access to smartphones & tablets.  That’s asking too much too soon.  It’s estimated that kids ages 5-19 are spending anywhere from 5-9 hours a day on a screen.  Thankfully there is technology that is being developed to help families limit screen time as well as monitor their tech usage (whether it’s social media, texting, games, or apps). Use these resources to your advantage and for the benefit of your family.  We have several resources listed below.

: Embrace God’s Community! God has ordained you to have authority over your family.  It is your family to oversee and steward. Nevertheless, you are still not called to do it alone. God has also blessed you with this body of believers to be a valuable resource to help you oversee & lead your family.   If you are not currently involved in a small group or Action Step 3sunday school class please connect with Jeff Hemphill and discover what a joy it is to have a village to love you through every season of life.
