Welcome from Dr. Owen Nease

If you want to know more about Jesus or are looking for a place to put your faith into action, we invite you to join us!

At the end of each service, I stand near the front of the stage. Please come by and introduce yourself; I would love to meet you and pray with you!

Don’t hesitate to call 405-691-6646 or email info@emmausokc.org if you have further questions beyond what is provided below.

What is your style?

First off, we believe substance is more important than style. But we understand you may have experienced different styles of church. Hopefully the information below will help you know a little more about us.

Music Style

We sing a variety of songs, including hymns you might have heard growing up and contemporary songs you might hear on the radio. The band includes multiple instruments, and a contemporary choir or praise team assists in worship leadership. Our main focus is that the words of the songs proclaim Jesus and match the truth of God’s Word.

Preaching Style

We primarily teach through a book of the Bible, or a section of Scripture (this process is sometimes called expository preaching). Occasionally, the preacher will develop a Scripturally-based series of sermons around a theological or cultural topic. Every sermon is based on the Bible and focused on the Good News of Jesus. We believe the Good News of Jesus is extremely helpful to our lives; but we don't practice “self-help” preaching where the goal is simply being a better person.

Clothing Style

Most people dress casually. Some people enjoy wearing traditional Sunday clothes (suit-and-tie for guys; dresses for ladies), but this is the exception rather than the rule at Emmaus. As with every area of life, we want to honor the Lord and respect one another in how we dress.

Next Steps

We know church isn't a spectator sport; but after you worship with a church on Sunday morning, it’s often hard to figure out what to do next.

Below are some great NEXT STEPS:

Discover Emmaus Lunch

Discover Emmaus is a free, no-obligation lunch offered several times a year to meet the church staff, learn more about the church, and ask questions. Discover Emmaus meets at 11:45am, immediately after the Sunday morning worship service. Childcare is provided with RSVP.

Group Bible Study

Christianity is not simply a private or individual matter. God has always been at work to shape a group of people who will worship Him and live for Him. We need to learn from other Christians, who face struggles yet continue to seek after God. We want to help you connect with a group that matches your schedule and your stage in life.

Baptism

  • What is baptism? Baptism is a public display of faith, showing a person’s turn (repentance) from sin and the person’s trust in Jesus Christ for new life (salvation). The act of baptism is not what takes away a person’s sins; instead, the act of baptism is a powerful and public expression of how God takes away sin and makes us new when we turn from sin and trust in Jesus Christ.

  • Who can be baptized at Emmaus? If you have repented of sin and trusted completely and solely in Jesus Christ for salvation, you are a candidate for baptism. Baptism in our faith tradition is not for babies or toddlers, and baptism is not an attempt to become a better, religious person.

  • Can I be a church member at Emmaus without being baptized? Everyone is welcome to attend Bible studies at Emmaus and worship with us. However, Baptism is a requirement for Church Membership at Emmaus. If you have not been baptized as a follower of Jesus, we would be honored to talk with you and answer any questions about this next step.

  • Want to talk with someone about baptism? Call 405-691-6646 to set up a meeting with a pastor, email info@emmausokc.org, or write “Baptism,” along with your name and best contact information, on the Guest Card during a Worship Service and submit this card in the offering plate or at the Welcome Center.

Church Membership

  • What is Church Membership? Church membership is not like having a country club membership or having a VIP card at your favorite restaurant. Church membership is a covenant that Christians make with one another to live together in a particular place as the Body of Christ. Church membership is much more about what we can give, than what we get (though it does come with very important spiritual benefits).

  • Who can become a member of Emmaus?

1. Repented of Sin and Trusted in Christ Alone for Forgiveness and New Life

2. Baptized as a public display of being a Follower of Jesus

3. Committed to serving the Body of Christ and Pursuing a Life of Holiness that displays to the world what it means to Follow Jesus

  • How can I become a member?

1. Attend the Emmaus Membership Training- This meeting is offered at 9:15am on the 2nd Sunday of each month throughout the year in the Pastor's Office. You will hear more about the expectations of membership, how we desire to serve you, and how you can get involved in serving others.

2. Meet with a Staff member or Deacon- This is not an interview or test. It’s simply a chance for you to share about your story of coming to faith in Christ and how you have grown in following Him. (If you have not been baptized, the Staff member or Deacon will answer any questions you have about this requirement for membership.)

3. Presented to the Church Family during a Worship Service- During the worship service, new members stand together (you won’t have to stand by yourself) with the rest of the church as we commit to serve Christ together.

We would love to hear from you!

Complete as much or as little of this form as desired. Someone from our team will contact you soon.
